Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Starting Pilates often comes with questions - especially if you’re new, returning after time away or looking for something calmer and more personal.

Below are answers to some of the most common frequently asked questions about mat Pilates at Pilates with Lou in Westbourne, Bournemouth.

If you don’t see what you’re looking for, you’re always very welcome to get in touch with me on 07550 818999 or use the 'Get In Touch' form.

Is Pilates with Lou suitable for beginners?
Yes. Many clients are new to Pilates. Sessions are calm, clearly explained and adapted to suit your body and confidence level.

Do you offer Pilates for back pain or joint issues?
Pilates can be very effective for improving posture, core support and mobility. Exercises are modified carefully and you’ll always be encouraged to move within your comfort level.

Where is the studio located?
The studio is based in Westbourne, Bournemouth, easily accessible from surrounding BH postcodes, including areas such as Talbot Woods, Branksome Park, Canford Cliffs, Alum Chine, Parkstone and further afield to Christchurch, Poole, Ferndown and Wimborne. I also offer 1:1 sessions at a client's home.

How many people are in each class?
Small group classes are limited to a maximum of 3 people ensuring personal attention and a relaxed atmosphere.

What should I bring to my first session?
Bring a water bottle with you. Wear comfortable clothing, such as leggings and a T-shirt that allows you to move freely. Avoid baggy clothing as I need to see your alignment.

Do I need to bring shoes or bring a mat?
Non-slip/grip socks are recommended. Mats and small equipment are provided, but feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer.

Is Pilates suitable as I get older?
Absolutely. Many clients are in their 40s, 50s, 60’s and beyond. Pilates supports strength, balance, posture and confidence at every stage of life.

Do I need to complete any forms?
You will be required to complete a short health questionnaire prior to your first session.

If booking a 2:1 or a 1:1 session, a consultation form will be completed in addition to the health questionnaire. This is to ensure that your needs and goals are integral to your bespoke programme.

How long is each course?
I have courses running in both school term time and during most school holidays. Each session usually lasts 55 minutes. Courses are available at different times, with a varying amount of sessions per course.

What happens if I am unwell, or not able to attend?
If you’re unwell or unable to attend, please let me know as soon as possible. I aim to be fair and supportive and cancellation terms are always explained clearly at the time of booking.
