How Personalised Pilates Changes as You Get Stronger

One of the benefits of personalised Pilates is that the session does not need to stay frozen at the level where you started. As you become more confident and develop strength and control, your Pilates can change with you.

Progress does not always mean doing something faster, bigger or more dramatic. In Pilates, improvement can also mean better control, greater precision, smoother breathing or being able to manage a movement with less effort.

First comes familiarity

When an exercise is new, part of the challenge is simply understanding what you are being asked to do. Lou may keep the movement straightforward while you become familiar with the position, breathing and sequence.

Then the challenge can develop

Once a movement feels more comfortable, there are many ways to progress it. The range might increase, the movement might become slower and more controlled, the number of repetitions might change, or a more demanding variation might be introduced.

The important point is that progression is chosen for a reason rather than simply because a harder version exists.

Some days will be different

Progress is rarely a perfectly straight line. Sleep, stress, work, illness and everyday life can all affect how a session feels. Personalised Pilates gives Lou the flexibility to adjust the session on the day rather than insisting on a predetermined level.

Technique can be progress too

Sometimes the most valuable change is not a new exercise at all. Becoming more precise in a familiar movement can create a completely different challenge and deepen your understanding of what you are doing.
